“It’s Frank’s world … and we’re lucky to be living in it.” – Dean Martin
That is the world of Jay Sands, who as a child, lived and breathed the music and mechanics of Frank Sinatra, learning the inflections and distinctive tones of his voice. This included Sinatra’s annunciation, diction and breathing style and how he applied each of these techniques to produce the Voice that performed for the world. In later years, Jay found himself not only singing the praises, but also the phrases of Sinatra.
Jay grew up on the streets of the Bronx in New York. These were fun years for him – running around the streets and learning what it meant to be a true native New Yorker.
Then, along came Blue Moon Entertainment, a Karaoke company which Jay spearheaded, that afforded him the opportunity to start his own business, which as it turns out, was one of the first independent Karaoke shows running in New York during that time. His shows were so successful that the KJ’s who followed him had started out with or were trained by Jay himself.
He continued playing for the top clubs of the Bronx, Westchester and Greater New York areas, when the idea for his next roadshow, “In the Style of Sinatra” was born. Blue Moon Entertainment gave Jay a chance to work on doing what he loved most, performing for others and singing the wonderful songs of Sinatra.
Before long, Jay was playing for sold out venues such as Don’t Tell Mama’s on Restaurant Row, New York, to the many restaurants of Little Italy and ultimately stretching from New York to Florida and even beyond. Jay did not stop there. Whenever he relocated to Florida, Jay was serenading crowds from the balconies and the piazzas of Universal Studio’s Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando for almost 2 years.
Then came venues such as the Ormond Beach Theater and the Melbourne Theater in Florida, as well as the private party circuit, up and down the east coast to many highly impressed audiences who were amazed by his level of craftsmanship and style.
When asked for a quote about Jay, after hearing him perform at a local performance, the great DJ and personality Don K. Reed from New York’s famous Oldies station WCBS FM 101.1, had this to say about Jay;
”Jay Sands not only swings on stage, but on his CD as well”
Other audience members of Jay’s shows have said this about him…
”If you close your eyes, you think you’re really listening to Frank Sinatra.”
”What a wonderful show!”
”Thank you for taking me back to the days spent on the line outside Paramount Theater.”
”Thank you for keeping the music alive!”
Now we are here in the present day and Jay is still “Keeping the music alive!“.
